Repentance that Leaves No Regret 生出没有后悔的懊悔来

Here is the short video clip of the Sunday message.

image The word of “Repentance” sounds very harsh to me in the past. In my own view, after you have made repentance to God, you must not repeat the same mistake again, but if you make mistakes again and again, repentance becomes more difficult to do because of the guilt. When the guilt go deeper into the spirit, repentance becomes a fear to me because I know myself that I will make mistakes again. How then can I face God and repent to Him? This is how I felt in the past.

Yes, I was so discouraged because I thought I had disappointed God and people by repeating the mistakes. That was totally a grave misunderstanding I had! Until the word of God said to me, “If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent,’ forgive him." <Luke 17:4>. No matter how many times I made the mistake, if I truly repent, He will still forgive me. This means that God has never felt disappointed on me, has never given up on me and has never reduced His love for me.

Ok since God has always been merciful and forgiven but how to forgive myself? Many times, I cannot see this great love and fulfilment of the cross because I am not upright before God. God has kept repeating His promises to me so many times, telling me that what is the truth in Him yet I do not see because I keep looking at my weaknesses. Then one day, I put aside all my problems because I knew the real problem is my spirit and that I could only be truly set free only through Jesus Christ. From then, I came before God again and prayed: “Lord, you know I cannot, you know my weaknesses, but I am willing to submit to you and listen to whatever you said. Forgive me and give me strength to stand up to fight. Even if I fall again, let me not forget Your kindness and will for me, let Your holiness surround and protect me…..” After I made this prayer, all my guilt and accusation were gone, I felt God’s holiness in me had made me feel clean and pure before him, and the assurance of my identity was also restored once again. This confession and the willingness heart have made me feel more wanting to be close and need the Lord. This is how God loves us, the weaker we are, the love of God is greater! Although I was rebuked and disciplined by God many times, God utmost concern is to make me reconcile with Him so that I can enjoy the blessing He gave. Thus, I am truly very thankful to God.

Then another important repentance I have made is that I keep “affirming that all my problems I have been going through are surely a great use for the kingdom.” Even if there are times I doubted, this is still the promise of God. We do know God loves us, God forgives us and God wants to use us but we never see and believe how God wants to use all our conditions and problems we are in now as the very great instruments for the gospel.

In 2 Peter 3:9, it is said: “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I think I am the slow one to understand but I am thankful to God that He is always so patient in me and waiting for me to repent.

You know after the last blog I have posted, some people came and confess to me about their problems. I was very touched by God because He is really a faithful God, His love is unconditional, and His plan for me is greater than I have imagined. I am such a wretched person, full of weaknesses, yet God wants to use me. I am not special but it is God Who have made me special. I have nothing to boast about but only my weaknesses. When my weaknesses were exposed, God’s power will rest in me and bring comforts to others.

In Jeremiah 31:19 it is said: “After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.”

To end this post, after all my struggling I had, with all the shamefulness I felt in me, I find that only through repentance (turn to God), Satan will be beaten off and the spirit will be cleansed and be freed again.

Repentance is not to make us feel more ashamed but to make us reconcile with God in His kindness, peace, joy, guidance, protection, provides, contentment, perfect will….etc. A willing and turning heart is more than anything else that God wants from us that leads to His plan for His kingdom. 🙂

A song which was recommended by our Pastor. After hearing this, my heart pour out to Jesus and let God healed me completely.

在祢寶座前 是我藏身處
Lead me to Your throne, to my hiding place
Cover me with song of Your joy
Hide me under Your wings
Lord, You’re the giver of life
Lord, You’re the everlasting light
In Your presence I’m set free
我得自由 必見光
Your holiness shines on me

充滿我 潔淨我
Fill me Lord. Come, fill me Lord
Here, before Your throne, the living water flows
Cleanse me, make me whole
充滿我 潔淨我
Fill me Lord. Come, fill me Lord
Here, before Your throne, the living water flows
Heal me, make me whole

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
<Jeremiah 29:11-13>
